Retirement is supposed to be a time for fun and relaxation. Who would have thought that retirement can also be stressful? Who would have thought that a retirement stress exists? One of the major causes of stress in this area of life is because when people retire, they leave stimulation behind and they do not replace it. This causes stress in return. Leaving a full-time work is a time of change and change is the basic foundation of stress.

If you are thinking about quitting, you must think things through first. Deeply ponder upon the reasons why you want to quit your job for good and to not replace it with another one. Here are some points to guide you:

You are considering retiring because you don’t like your job

Office politics, tough commutes, low salary, stressful working environment, and an insensitive boss do not necessarily suggests that you want to retire but rather to change jobs. If you don’t like your job, find another one sounds mores sensible than if you do not like your job, retire. We don’t really quit working because we hate a job now do we?

Know why you want to retire

Is it really your decision or the decision had been strongly influenced by someone else? Are you quitting because you want to have fun and to relax or is it because you were forced out? The reason or reasons for your leaving has an impact on where you are going and how easy your transition will be.

Be honest with yourself

People sometimes confuse their careers for their lives. If you have achieved something great and noticeable and have contributed a lot to your field during those long years of working, chances are your job has become your identity. It would really create a retirement stress. You have to prepare yourself and to be aware that detachment from major involvements in your career is inevitable when you quit working.
